How did you do last week? Did you get your dreams and goals sheets filled out? If not, please go back to last weeks blog post and fill out your sheets. It’s the best way to start list your dreams and goals and start fulfilling them.
This week I’m going to talk about passion. For many people, their creative outlet is just a hobby; something that they can dabble in, not too seriously. In other words….it keeps them busy when not working for a living. For others, their artistry, design or job is done with such a passion; one that breaks the bonds of financial or social and borders on the spiritual.
So what is the difference between the two? First off, well rounded human beings have multiple areas of interest in their lives. If we are only a one hit wonder (so to speak), our lives would be totally boring and we would be no more than carbon robots. Diversity is the spice of life; in many respects. That means if you are a highly technical person and don’t have any ‘creative’ release mechanisms; other problems could occur. That might mean mental or physical problems. Release mechanisms might mean the creative arts such as writing, painting, photography, singing or dance; but it could also be related to other activities such as fishing, hunting, playing tennis, basketball, or golf. Having this release mechanism keeps you from going insane.
Now the difference between those who have a passion as a hobby and the ones who truly make a living with their passion is the commitment and the determination with which they approach these creatives. You might paint images and have fun doing so; but you have no inclination to start a business and worry about getting gallery space or what you should price your work as. If you truly have a sense for the ‘business’ side; all the aspects including marketing, pricing and other business items are just as much a burning passion as your art.
The problem is there is no clear line between the two. You might feel you’re ready for taking your creative outlet to full-time; but lack skills on certain parts of the business aspect. Clear, independent judgement is usually a good place to start. Be warned, it may not make you happy; but you’re talking about your life here. Some people are happy with a little, while others need a lot. Needing little makes it easier to be let down. Wanting lots in life means you have to work hard; or be lucky to inherit money or win the lottery.
So for now, evaluate where you’re at, take a look at your goals and find out where your “PASSION” is!! See you next week.
